Welcome from the Chairman
A very warm welcome to The Arts Society Exmoor. Formerly known as the Exmoor Decorative and Fine Arts Society, we are a branch of The Arts Society (formerly called NADFAS). An adult education organisation and a charity, we promote knowledge and appreciation of the arts, and we support both heritage volunteering and the development of talent and interest in the arts among our community.
Our aim is to provide a very friendly environment in which to meet old friends and new, with the common thread of a general appreciation of the arts acting as the glue that brings us together. Given the remoteness of some of the areas of Exmoor where our members live, many really appreciate the chance to catch up in such a sociable and relaxing setting, with the added bonus of enjoying exceptional lectures on some eclectic and surprising topics. There’s always something new to learn!
Arts Society accredited speakers are rigorously selected at national level, but each local society creates its own programme of monthly lectures, plus periodic special interest days which explore a topic in greater depth over several hours. Topics range widely over the arts, architecture, craft and music, covering mainstream and more unconventional subjects, and the quality and expertise of the speakers are such that members often report being gripped and fascinated by a subject they previously had little interest or knowledge of!
We always welcome new membership enquiries whatever time of year. The current annual subscription is £60 per person; a pro-rata amount is charged for those joining mid-year. To find out more about The Arts Society Exmoor please contact us by email on exmoor@theartssociety.org
