A WELCOME FROM THE CHAIRMAN
A very warm welcome to the website of the Arts Society Exmoor. This is the new name of what used to be called the Exmoor Decorative and Fine Arts Society. We are a branch of The Arts Society (formerly called NADFAS), which is both an adult education organisation and a charity. We promote knowledge and appreciation of the arts, and we support both heritage volunteering and the development of talent and interest in the arts among young people.
Arts Society accredited speakers are rigorously selected at national level, but each local society creates its own programme of monthly lectures, plus periodic special interest days which explore a topic in greater depth over several hours. We range widely over the arts, architecture, craft and music, covering mainstream and more unconventional topics, and the quality and expertise of the speakers are such that members often report fascination with subjects which they had not expected to find especially gripping.
We also organise day trips to places of interest in the region and longer cultural tours. Within the UK we have in recent years toured London and Derbyshire, with a tour of Norfolk planned for May 2018. Recent overseas tours have taken us to Istanbul and The Netherlands.
We gather for the monthly lectures on Monday afternoons at Brushford, near Dulverton, from October to June – Google Map. Our members’ addresses range from Barnstaple to Taunton. A few places remain available for this 2017-18 year, and we welcome new membership enquiries. The annual subscription is £44 (£82 for a couple); a pro rata amount is charged for those joining mid-year. To find out more about The Arts Society Exmoor please contact us.
